Moving on, something that I can understand being divisive is the moral system. The fact that it is also jaw-droppingly beautiful at higher frame rates and resolutions only adds to the experience. Now before I get too ahead of myself, I know that gameplay and story matter most when picking out a game, but Exodus has those in spades.

Who knew that walking through the ruins of Russia with a flip-lighter out could be such a captivating experience? Along with Ray Tracing are boosts to the dynamic resolution of the game, with the Series X running consistently above 1080p resolution along with a framerate boost to 60 fps. The most readily noticeable change is the introduction of Ray Tracing, which is just absolutely stunning. And it’s in these wide open areas that the enhanced edition of Metro Exodus really shines, with performance and graphical boosts that previously could only be enjoyed on PC. The campaign is a linear story like the previous entries, but each area has different objectives to complete that affect Artyom’s relationships and interactions throughout the main story. You'll still get the correct aspect-ratio in-game if you set the control panel to fullscreen.Exodus’ biggest departure from the previous two entries is the switch from the tunnels of the Metro to large sandbox, open-world-style maps. In other words, if alt-tabbing messes up the aspect ratio change the control panel setting to "full screen" and your fine again. So you'll have to either restart the game, or change the setting in the Nvidia control panel. I'd love to hear if you folks get the same result and hope this will help some of you out.ĮDITED: So I discovered, that if you alt-tab and go back into the game the scaling will sometimes fail, if you force "aspect-ratio" via Nvidia control panel. Here is a gallery with some direct comparisons: Every 16:9 resolution I have tried behaves the same way, so I am going with the assumption that it is intended. I am not sure if this is a bug or working as intended. So what it boils down to is that if you set your resolution in-game to 2560x1440 (16:9) instead of 3440x1440 (21:9) your image quality with DLSS is vastly improved ! The distortion seems to keep the DLSS sharpness improvements intact. In other words the image you see on screen has the correct aspect ratio. So what it renders is this : but what you actually see on your screen is this. It seems like Metro is "pre-distorting" the image when you set the render resolution to 2560x1440 on a 3440x1440 monitor. When I took a screenshot with GeForce Experience I realized what was happening. Now here is the thing though the image you see on your screen does not "appear" to be stretched 16:9.

However, if you set your resolution to 2560x1440 in Metro, the game still stretches to the full screen.

In other words it should display the game with "pillar boxes" on both sides, if I set the resolution to a 16:9 one like 2560x1440.

You see, I have the NVIDIA control panel set up with the following settings for how it should handle resolutions : "aspect ratio / perform scaling on GPU / override the scaling mode set by games and programs". To my surprise the game seems to handle resolutions in a weird way. However, if you are running a 21:9 monitor with a resolution of 3440x1440 you are out of luck, because DLSS looks just as blurry as before the patch.įrustrated about this, I decided to switch my resolution to 2560x1440 to see what that would look like in Metro.

So as you all know there was a patch for Metro Exodus that improved DLSS quite dramatically, at least at 4k and 2560x1440 resolutions.
